Meet Lily
I am originally from Colombia, and have been living in the United States for more than 30 years. I am mother to four and grandmother of eight. My granddaughter has been in the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District all her life and is currently a senior in Parsippany High School.
I have always been involved in my children’s activities and through the years, I have taken jobs that allowed me to support my children’s school and extracurricular activities. I was even a bus driver for 7 years!
A favorite family activity when my children were young were our library visits, when each sibling would get a bag of books to read that week. I believe that reading influences children’s imaginations, provides them with knowledge across many subjects and inspires in them a love for learning and education. It didn’t surprise me at all that my son chose to be a teacher.
I have also been a lifelong advocate and community organizer for human and immigrants’ rights. In recent years I have helped to distribute food, clothes and diapers to Morris County families. And, I have helped many families procure resources – especially those struggling with the challenges of overcoming language barriers, poverty and their children’s special needs learning requirements.
One of the main reasons I am running as a Board of Education candidate is to serve as a stronger advocate for vulnerable families to ensure that their children are provided with precisely the support they need to succeed in their educational journeys and careers.
Another major reason I’m running is to promote accountability. I want to make sure that the funds allocated for students’ education is being spent in ways that best support them as learners and as valued members of the Parsippany-Troy Hills student body.
As a Board of Education member, I will work tirelessly to identify and implement solutions that will bring benefits to both students and the faculty members who teach them.
